St. Augustine College of Education Embraces the Federal Government’s Dual Mandate Initiative.
St. Augustine College of Education, Akoka, Lagos, is pleased to inform the general public, our students, parents, alumni, partners, and other stakeholders that the College has formally embraced the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Dual Mandate Policy for Federal, State and Private Colleges of Education, that meet the prescribed requirements. The Dual Mandate Policy empowers qualified Colleges of Education to award both the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Bachelor’s Degrees in Education directly, subject to the approval and regulation of the relevant government agencies.
Following the adoption of this policy, St. Augustine College of Education will cease operating its degree programmes under affiliation with the University of Ibadan. Instead, upon the completion of all regulatory processes and approvals, the College will become an autonomous degree-awarding institution, authorized to award both NCE and Bachelor’s Degrees in Education alongside with Entrepreneurship Certificate.
As stipulated by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), institutions approved under the Dual Mandate framework will operate under a transitional period of five (5) years, during which they will continue to strengthen their academic programmes, governance structures, quality assurance mechanisms, staffing and infrastructure while exercising their degree-awarding mandate. This development represents a significant milestone in the history of St. Augustine College of Education. This further repositions the College’s academic quality, institutional capacity and long-standing commitment to excellence in teacher education.
We wish to assure our current students, prospective students, parents and the general public that:
All existing students will continue to enjoy uninterrupted academic programmes and appropriate transition arrangements in line with regulatory guidelines.
- The quality of teaching, learning, research and community service for which the College is known will remain our highest priority.
- Degrees awarded under the Dual Mandate will be recognized in accordance with the approvals and regulations of the appropriate government agencies.
- The College remains fully committed to producing professionally competent, morally upright and globally competitive educators.
For over five decades, St. Augustine College of Education has distinguished itself as one of Nigeria’s leading teacher education institutions. The adoption of the Dual Mandate marks the beginning of a new chapter that will expand opportunities for students while preserving the rich academic tradition and Catholic values upon which the College was founded.
We appreciate the support and confidence of our Proprietor, Governing Council, staff, students, alumni, parents, regulatory agencies and all our stakeholders as we embark on this exciting journey. Together, we look forward to building an even stronger institution that will continue to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of education in Nigeria and beyond.
Signed
Very Rev. Fr. Vincent Kayode Olofinkua, Ph.D.
Provost
