The Inaugural Mass is traditionally celebrated at the beginning of the academic year as an opportunity for the College community  to commit its plans, activities, and responsibilities to God, asking for His guidance in the pursuit of academic excellence, personal development, unity, and service. It also reminds members of the community that education is not merely about acquiring knowledge but also about developing good character, discipline, and a sense of responsibility.

The Holy Mass was presided over by the Provost of the College; Very. Rev. Fr. Dr. Vincent Kayode Olofinkua, alongside The Dean of Student; Rev. Fr. Clement Uzoanya O.P.  The celebration brought members of the College community together in prayer and thanksgiving.

The Homily was delivered by the provost; Very. Rev. Fr. Dr. Vincent Kayode Olofinkua emphasing the importance of seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the academic and administrative life of the College. He noted that beyond careful planning and academic preparation, the success of the institution requires wisdom, patience, humility, cooperation, and a willingness to work together.

Reflecting on the different gifts and responsibilities within the College community, he encouraged everyone lecturers, non-teaching staff, and students to recognise the value of their individual contributions and work towards the common good of the college. He also reminded students that education goes beyond obtaining certificates; it involves the formation of character, discipline, integrity, and a commitment to shaping the lives of future generations.

Furthermore, he urged the College community to approach the new academic year as an opportunity for personal improvement, encouraging punctuality, mutual respect, effective communication, and the faithful discharge of responsibilities. He concluded with a call for everyone to allow the Holy Spirit to guide their daily actions and strengthen their commitment to the mission of the College.

The Inaugural Mass served as a spiritual foundation for the 2026/2027 academic session, reaffirming St. Augustine College of Education’s commitment to academic excellence, holistic formation, and service to humanity.

As the College embarks on the new session, the community prays for a session filled with wisdom, unity, progress, and the continued guidance of the Holy Spirit.
