It is with great joy and gratitude to God Almighty that I stand before you today on this special occasion of the matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session. This is a significant milestone in your academic journey, marking your formal admission into this institution, where you will be equipped with knowledge, skills, and values necessary to impact society positively.
First and foremost, I extend my warmest congratulations to all our newly admitted students across the different programs-Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), Degree (in affiliation with the University of Ibadan), Professional Diploma in Education, and Diploma in Catechesis. Your presence here today is a proof of your hard work, determination, and the grace of God. I also recognize the sacrifices made by your families and loved ones to support you in reaching this stage.
Navigating the Realities of Our Time
As we celebrate this occasion, we cannot ignore the economic challenges currently facing our nation, Nigeria. Many families are struggling with financial constraints, and the rising cost of education has made it difficult for many aspiring students to fulfill their dreams of higher learning. We understand the burden these places on parents and guardians, and we acknowledge the resilience of our students who remain determined to pursue knowledge despite these hardships.
A Heartfelt Appreciation to the Knights and Ladies of St. John International
In the midst of these challenges, we are deeply grateful for the generous support provided by the Knights and Ladies of St. John International, who have taken it upon themselves to sponsor the tuition fees of our Degree and NCE students. This act of kindness and commitment to education are commendable, and we pray that God will continue to bless and reward them abundantly. To our beneficiaries, this is not just an opportunity but also a responsibility – an obligation to make the most of this gift and strive for excellence in your academic and moral pursuits.
Expectations and Responsibilities
As matriculating students, you are now officially part of this academic community. Your primary duty is to be diligent in your studies, uphold discipline, and exhibit exemplary character. Education is not just about acquiring certificates; it is about becoming agents of transformation in our society. I urge you to embrace hard work, integrity, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
You will be guided by experienced lecturers and administrators who are dedicated to shaping your future. I encourage you to take advantage of every academic and extracurricular opportunity available to you. Make use of the libraries, engage in meaningful discussions, participate in research, and develop skills that will prepare you for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
In addition, let me emphasize the importance of respect – respect for one another, for staff and faculty, and for the values that define this institution. Discipline, humility, and a sense of responsibility must guide your actions throughout your time here.
Looking Ahead with Hope
Despite the economic hardships, let us not lose hope. Education remains a powerful tool for breaking barriers and creating opportunities. With dedication, perseverance, and faith in God, you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way. Remember, you are not alone on this journey – we, as an institution, are here to support and guide you every step of the way.
Conclusion
Once again, I congratulate all our matriculating students. Welcome to a journey of growth, learning, and transformation. May you make the most of your time here, and may God bless your efforts. To the Knights of St. John International, we express our deepest appreciation for your generosity and commitment to education. Our appreciation also goes to our Proprietor, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of Lagos for his constant fatherly advice and unwavering support.
May God bless you all and bless our institution.
Thank you.
