CERTIFICATE IN CATECHESIS
The Catechetical Department runs an 18 months Distance (On-line) and Contact Classes certificate course in Catechesis for parish catechism teachers, as well as individuals seeking adult faith formation. This certificate course in Catechesis looks at the ministry of catechesis within the contest of the Church’s mission to evangelize.
THE TRAINING IS IN FOUR MODULES:
- Theology: The content of catechesis and understanding the catechism with emphasis on the first three sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church
- Skills Development: This is aimed at educating the catechist in various-
- Catechetical approaches
- Learning styles; and
- Classroom management
- Prayer and Spirituality
- The Practicum: A period of practical teaching experience and further development of catechetical skills in the parishes.
Who is the Programme For?
This programme is open to both Religious and lay faithful who wish to deepen their knowledge of the Catholic Faith. However, particular attention will be given to:
- Religious who are involved in Pastoral Ministry
- Catechists
- Those involved in pastoral work related to evangelization
- Lay Faithful wishing to deepen their Faith
Duration of the Programme
The programme is an 18-month Physical and Online distance-learning course.
METHODS
On-line students: Classes are via Zoom every Thursday evening at 8pm
Regular Students: Contact classes twice a month at 10 am (2nd and 3rd Saturdays)
Academic Staff
The course will be taught by suitably qualified and experienced lecturers drawn from within Lagos Archdiocese and other Catholic Institutes of higher learning.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted for this programme, the candidate must possess:
- At least four (4) O Level credits, English language inclusive.
- Certificate in Catechesis
Assessment
This course consists of twelve course content and each module will be assessed by a written assignment of words not more than 1500-2000 words.
The final assessment for the program will be an outline plan of a catechetical session and a project presentation not exceeding 5000 words. Completion of the course is determined by either a pass or fail.
